Lace Museum (Burano)

Burano Lace School

Visit Lace Museum in Venice

If Murano means glass, Burano means Lace. This group of small islands within the city of Venice represent one of the greatest attractions for visitors, because of its colourful houses and its long tradition of lace manufacturing.

The museum was founded in 1981 and it’s located in the former Lace School of Burano. The lace school was created in 1872, on the initative of Adriana Marcello, in order to re-launch the secular tradition of lace production.

The museum exhibits more than one hundred different examples of needle-lace, together with very interesting historical documents, dating back to the XVI° and XX° centuries, which explain how the needle-lace is produced, .

The museum also offers the excellent opportunity, available only in the mornings, to watch lace-workers producing beautiful lace.
